I’ve lived and worked in 60 countries across all 7 continents now. That has included seven separate visits to Asia and two separate visits to China specifically. I know China pretty well, so I’d like to introduce you to Hong Kong’s lesser-known gem of a neighbour, Shenzhen.
Shenzhen is also known as “China’s Silicon Valley” because of its flourishing community of tech companies. This former fishing village is now a very large and very modern city indeed, and let me tell you, it’s worth visiting for its hotels alone. So I’ve done all the work for you to pick out the best luxury hotels in Shenzhen.

Why visit Shenzhen
Shenzhen happily has one of the highest densities of luxury hotels in the country and there are art museums galore. It also has an impressive skyline and a robust and modern public transportation network. In addition, there are a variety of popular beaches and parks, cultural attractions like Splendid China Folk Village, and a huge range of shopping, from local crafts to luxury brands—just watch out for the markets full of designer knockoffs.
There are excellent high speed rail connections from Futian District, so you can be in Guangzhou in half an hour and in Hong Kong in 15 minutes. Best of all, there are so many fabulous luxury hotels for solo travelers like myself to choose from in Shenzhen that I’m going to break this list down into three sets of ten:
- The Ten Poshest Luxury Hotels in Shenzhen for the folks who only want to look at the top shelf
- The Ten Lowest Priced Luxury Hotels in Shenzhen for the peeps who are looking for a steal
- And just in case you haven’t found the perfect fit yet, Ten More Options
We’re nothing if not true luxury lovers at Wanderluxed, so let’s start with the top shelf, shall we?
The Ten Poshest Luxury Hotels in Shenzhen ($250/£200 and up)
(1) Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen
You want your very own castle in the clouds, right? So book in at Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen. That’s because it’s perched at the top of a 79-storey skyscraper in the heart of Futian District, the better to take advantage of the telescopes in the suites. Furthermore, you won’t believe the view from the bathtub.
Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen is one of the most celebrated five-star hotels in Shenzhen—it won the coveted five-star rating in the 2024 Forbes travel guide, for instance. It also has a perfect location in the centre of Shenzhen. You’ll be a 10-minute drive to Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Centre, for example. Also, it’s a 20-minute drive to Happy Valley Theme Park Shenzhen and 45 minutes by car from Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport. Don’t haggle with a city taxi driver when you could book a private car through Holiday Taxis (from $66 per person).
Once you’re checked in, you can unwind in an indoor swimming pool that looks like it belongs in an art museum. Next, recharge at your choice of not one or two but eight in-house dining options, including the much-lauded Bay by Chef Fei.

(2) Andaz Shenzhen Bay
Across town in Shenzhen Bay is an outpost of Hyatt’s Andaz brand with another set of stunning views. The Taiwan-born American interior designer, Tony Chi, has beautifully blended some of his hometown NYC aesthetic (clean lines and contemporary art, for instance) with elegant old-world features like leather-cushioned armchairs, white plantation shutters, and Calacatta Luccicoso-style marble baths.
Also, the spacious rooms (50-square-metres and up) are outfitted with luxurious accommodations like Nespresso machines, complimentary minibars, and smart mirrors with internet access. Meanwhile, on-site dining options include East Room (for Chinese food), West Room (for Western fare), and Mayflower (for a modern afternoon tea in a space inspired by a traditional Chinese teahouse).
Furthermore, you’ll be a 16-minute drive to Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Centre, a 14-minute drive to Happy Valley Theme Park Shenzhen, and a 35-minute ride from Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport. When you arrive, skip the airport taxi queue by booking a private driver from Holiday Taxis or, if you’re feeling brave, rent your own car—you can park it here for free.

(3) Park Hyatt Shenzhen
The Park Hyatt brand of Hyatt Hotels has a thing for spacious rooms with a residential feel and world class art collections. Unquestionably, Park Hyatt Shenzhen does that thing well. This is especially notable in the guest rooms designed by Yabu Pushelberg. They have floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the city, for instance, as well as Nespresso machines, custom artwork, and motion sensor-activated lighting.
Another bonus: dining options in the hotel include The Living Room (for tea), The Garden Pavilion (for Cantonese), The Glasshouse (for French-style steak and seafood). There’s also the Pool Terrace (for BBQ and cocktails) and The Attic (a speakeasy-inspired bar at the tippy top of the tower).
Equally important to aesthetic is convenience and you’ll be a 5-minute drive to Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Centre here. Furthermore, you’ll be a 16-minute drive to Happy Valley Theme Park Shenzhen and a 40-minute ride from Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport. When you arrive, you’ll be relieved if you pre-booked a private car pickup from Holiday Taxis.

There’s an urban planning exhibit that spotlights the extraordinary transformation of Shenzhen from remote fishing village to urban metropolis.
(4) Intercontinental Shenzhen Dameisha Resort
45 minutes east of Shenzhen proper is as far as you have to go to reach a creamy sweep of coast on the turquoise South China Sea. Should you do so, I suggest you stay at the Intercontinental Shenzhen Dameisha Resort. Firstly, it’s situated just at the end of the Shenzhen Metro Line 8, which is a 7-minute walk from Xiaomeisha Underground Station. At the same time, it’s an idyllic natural oasis tucked between the mountains and the sea.
Markedly spacious rooms start at a generous 45 square metres and have a soothing minimalist aesthetic—only the cleanest of the clean lines here. The main dining options are COMMUNE (global cuisine with a sea view) and The Azure (a more intimate oceanfront affair inspired by the French Riviera).

- Nearest art museum: The Shenzhen Art Museum features contemporary painting and sculpture, including works by local Shenzhen artists (35 minutes by taxi).
(5) The Langham Shenzhen
At first glance, The Langham Shenzhen might appear to be a beautiful oxymoron of sorts. The traditional British design gives the impression of staying in your Great Aunt’s old world estate. That is, if your Great Aunt’s old world estate had been transported to the inside of a modern glass skyscraper.
As is the standard for top-of-the-line hotels in Shenzhen, the elegant rooms are suitably spacious, starting at 40 square metres. And despite the traditional beauty of the decor, you can expect modern conveniences like Nespresso machines, iHome mp3 players, and shower heads as big as pizzas. Moreover, The Langham Shenzhen is in the heart of Futian District. In other words, it’s located directly in the middle of the action, since Futian has the highest density of upscale shopping malls, fabulous restaurants, and entertainment options anywhere in the city.
However, there are plenty of dining options inside the hotel. Particularly enticing options include tapas and jazz at Perch, fine Cantonese at T’ang Court, and a flawless English afternoon tea in Palm Court. So in the end, the bold blend of classic and cutting-edge works unexpectedly well.

- Nearest art museum: He Xiangning Art Museum for contemporary Chinese art (7 minutes by taxi)
(6) Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen
Checking in to the Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen feels like checking in to an art museum. Firstly, the front desk looks like a cubist sculpture covered in semiprecious crystal. Also, guests are towered over by immense paintings. The spacious rooms start at 56 square metres—massive even by Shenzhen standards. They include luxurious accommodation such as deep soaking tubs, TVs embedded in the bathroom mirrors, and iPod docking stations.
The prime location in the heart of Futian District provides a wealth of attractions and dining options. But should you choose to stay in for meals, you’ll be spoilt for choice. There are modern Cantonese, international, and Japanese restaurants in the hotel.

- Nearest art museum: Shenzhen Museum has a massive collection of 45,000+ objects including historical relics and ancient art (5 minutes by taxi).
(7) St. Regis Shenzhen
If you’ll be needing 24-hour butler service (who doesn’t, right?), you’ll want to stay at the St. Regis Shenzhen. That’s because your butler can do everything from unpacking your suitcase to pressing your garments or coming in to draw the curtains and deliver coffee service in the morning.
Regardless of whether you call your butler, you’ll be surrounded in luxury. The sophisticated rooms have Bang & Olufsen sound systems, for one thing. They also have 3D TVs with DVD-players and bathrooms enclosed in glass that can be misted by pressing a privacy button. Add to that the prime location in Luohu District and it would be difficult to find fault with a stay here.
Meanwhile, in-house dining options include an Italian restaurant. There’s also a striking library with a selection of books and DVDs to take back to your room. But if you need to “get out of the house,” it’s easy because you can always pop down the elevator to do some upscale shopping at KK Mall.

- Fitness Centre: ✅
- Free Private Parking: ✅
- 5-minute walk to: KK Mall
- Nearest art museum: Guan Shan Yue Mei Shu Guan (three floors of rotating Chinese art exhibits (16 minutes by taxi)
(8) Ritz-Carlton Shenzhen
Given that I’ve travelled to 60 countries across all seven continents, it takes a bit more to impress me. But when I saw the newly refreshed rooms at Ritz-Carlton Shenzhen, I gasped.🤭 And I did it again when I saw the rooftop swimming pool.
The “his and hers” (or “hers and theirs,” etc.) polished wooden benches with velvet seats at the foot of the bed. The subtly textured carpets and oversized contemporary leather chairs. It all adds up to a very elegant space indeed. Italian and Chinese restaurants, a cigar bar, and a lobby lounge serving afternoon tea complete the array of on-site dining options. But you’re smack in the middle of the Futian District should you wish to venture out.

(9) Conrad Shenzhen
Staying in Nanshan District instead of Futian has its advantages. Sweeping views of Qianhai Bay, for instance. Also, a shorter drive to and from Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, but without moving outside the centre of Shenzhen.
If you do stay in Nanshan, Conrad Shenzhen is a stellar place to do it. Topping my list of reasons why are the imposing marble bathrooms, Byredo toiletries, and silver velvet settees in the guest rooms. Floor-to-ceiling windows are standard and the spacious rooms start at a generous 56 square metres. There’s also a heated indoor swimming pool and two restaurants—one Chinese, one Western.
- Swimming Pool: ✅
- Free Wifi: ✅
- Spa: ❌
- Room Service: ✅
- Fitness Centre: ✅
- Free Private Parking: ✅
- 20-minute walk to: Qianhai Bay and the surrounding green space
- Nearest art museum: Nantou Ancient City Museum has a small collection of artifacts from across the former Bao’an County (free admission, 14 minutes by taxi).
(10) Raffles Shenzhen
Another option in Nanshan District is the sleek Raffles Shenzhen. Every room comes with 24-hour butler service, and your address includes the highest concert hall in the world. There’s also a helipad atop the 71-storey tower that can be used as an entertaining space when it’s not welcoming (or seeing off) guests lucky enough to travel by helicopter. Rooms come with goose down bedding, smart toilets, and spacious dressing rooms.
- Swimming Pool: ✅
- Free Wifi: ✅
- Spa: ✅
- Room Service: ✅
- Fitness Centre: ✅
- Free Private Parking: ✅
- 10-minute walk to: Shenzhen Talent Park, a 770,000-square-metre green space. The park features exhibits about distinguished academics and other leaders who have influenced the history of Shenzhen.
- Nearest art museum: He Xiangning Art Museum for contemporary Chinese art (11 minutes by taxi).
